The Heart of Lifegroups at Halifax United Methodist Church
John 17:20-23: “My prayer is not for them alone, I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be ONE, father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be ONE as we are ONE: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
These words of Jesus, some of the last that He spoke before His death, reveal the passion of His heart: that we would be ONE, as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are ONE. As the Trinity is ONE, so can we, brothers and sisters, be ONE. Being ONE not only provides us with a community of love and support to lean on, but also, as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), causes us to grow more like Jesus and shows the world the nature of God in all His grace and goodness. God has laid that passion on our hearts and led us to Lifegroups as the means for taking us there.
Any group of people meeting together in low numbers could be called a small group, but a Lifegroup is meeting together for the purpose of becoming ONE. God has given us instructions for how to do that in His Word. The Greek word for “ONE another” is used 100 times in the New Testament, 47 times to give instruction to the followers of Jesus. These verses define Biblical community and the standard to which we are striving in Lifegroups for all ages at HUMC.
Get involved, get connected.....be ONE.
